The Lego Play Book by Daniel Lipkowitz

This book is very similar to the 'Lego Ideas Book' but it actually includes some building instructions, where the 'Ideas' book does not. It has the same great, bright layout and is easy to follow, listing builds by topic/themes. It is still around only 90% ideas though. Every couple of pages, they break down how to make something but not with full instructions.

This book is still aimed at older builders (6+), although a patient parent and a skilled younger builder (4-6) could still get a lot out of it.

Looking around online you can find a number of instructions for making 2d pictures out of Lego. Search for a theme they love - we started with a picture of Captain America. More recently, we built a number 5 for a birthday party display. The '5' was a nice project to do together because the parent can build the outside frame and the young builder can search and find all the pieces to perfectly fill the inside. A bit like a mix of playing Tetris using Leog and doing a puzzle!
