On my bike by Kari-Lynn Winters

This is a simple little book about a child taking a bike ride with their mother. We like it because it is the first book we have found where the child is on a balance bike! It is nice for little ones who aren't using pedal pikes to see others using the same. Great for toddlers and younger children.

Bike helmet decorating - Age 2+

It is never too early to encourage safe riding, so why not give little ones some ownership of their helmet? The helmet we use is shiny, so it can be decorated weekly with dry erase markers. Any helmet can have a makeover with stickers too. Kids will look forward to wearing their art and displaying it as they ride.

Threading a wheel (Fine motor skills)- Age 1+

Threading is a well known activity for little ones for a variety of reasons. Grasping a needle (or in our case, a bit of tape at the end of some yarn) encourages kids to use the pincer grip. It helps build muscles in their fingers and hands. Getting the thread through the hole takes good hand eye coordination.

This can be adapted to fit in with many themes and we thought it was perfect for our bike books, since the finished product looks like a wheel. Use any hard material that you can punch holes in. We used a paper plate. A piece of tape around the end of the string or yarn you are using is a good substitute for a needle. A really easy activity that can thrown together with household objects!
