Oops! by Leo TimmersDo your kids like to laugh? Silly question? Then they'll love this book. "Oops" is about a sneaky little piggy who runs off on his mummy and daddy to go down the hill, even though he knows he isn't allowed to go on his own. He quickly realises he is going to crash and calls for his parents but avoids disaster by going around the obstacle. Then going over the next one. Under the following one. Between the last one.
This is a quick-to-read story with lots of great repetition for getting kids joining in on reciting. It has some gorgeous quirky characters (who are great talking points) and a story I think most parents can relate to. Scroll down for:

Prepositions (positional language) - Age 2+
This book is full of prepositions and is a perfect way to work on positional language with little ones. Try setting up a snowy mountain (we used some pillow stuffing, but just a pillow would be good enough!) and any animals you have that are also in the book. Read the book again and try copying the pig. Depending on your child's familiarity with the words, you can ask them to make the pig go 'OVER' or 'UNDER' or 'BETWEEN' other animals. New vocabulary needs to be repeated and practised many times for little brains to remember them. Read about when we originally shared it on Instagram - HERE |
Medical role playing - Age 2+
Role playing or acting like a character, is a great way for kids to interact with a book. The poor elephant in this story isn't looking too good as he is carried down the mountain. If you have a toy elephant lying around (you could draw one or use a picture if you don't), ask your little one to help you take care of it. We used a facecloth, a cup of water, dollar store band-aids and a reusable cloth bandage. They will probably quickly move on to helping other animals out as well. We like to sit back and let little ones play as independently as possible but when are done exploring it is also nice to comment on what they are doing to reinforce some language they might be using ("It was very kind of you put a bandage around his leg." or "I watched you being gentle as you lay him down.").
